[SOLVED] IoT Solutions for Smart Home

Below mentioned are the solutions for smart home which can be applied to new as well as old constructions. These services will not only improve human-computer interaction and automate things, but also increase value of the property.


  1. Smart Door Lock

    1. This is a smart door lock that can be operated remotely using a mobile/web app from anywhere in the world.

    2. A Numpad will be there next to the door lock to open the door by entering a passcode.

    3. Numpad passwords can be changed over the air.

    4. Workflow - 

      1. Case 1 :

        1. A user comes at the door and types passcode on the Numpad.

        2. A wifi controller takes input from Numpad and verifies it. Upon verification, it commands(via wifi) electric door lock to open.

        3. The door closes automatically when it aligns with its frame.

      2. Case 2 : 

        1. If a user wants to open a door from outside the local network then he can give command via a mobile/web app to open the door.

        2. Mobile/web app contacts with MQTT Broker(Server) and asks it to send the command to the electric door lock module.

        3. MQTT Broker(Server) sends a command to the electric door module and requests acknowledgment.

        4. The acknowledgment received is sent all the way back to the mobile/web app.

        5. The door closes automatically when it aligns with its frame.


  1. Portable CCTV Camera

    1. This is a wireless CCTV Camera whose footage will be available on a mobile app to monitor from anywhere in the world. 

    2. It also has a Pan-Tilt-Zoom feature which can be controlled from the app.

    3. Workflow - 

      1. Users can control camera movements via the app. When a user sends a camera a pan/tilt/zoom command via the app, the request goes via server to the camera and the camera performs that operation.

      2. The camera sends video footage by using RTSP(Real-Time Streaming Protocol) to the user’s phone via server.


  1. Smart Plug/Switch

    1. Smart Plug/Switch can be used to plug devices including TV, AC, Fridge, etc. which can be then controlled using a mobile/web app from anywhere in the world.

    2. Workflow - 

      1. When a user wants to power on/off the switch then he can give that command via mobile/web app.

      2. Mobile/web app contacts with MQTT Broker(Server) and asks it to send the command to smart switch.

      3. MQTT Broker(Server) sends a command to the smart switch and requests acknowledgment.

      4. The acknowledgment received is sent all the way back to the mobile/web app.


  1. Smart Electric Meter

    1. Smart energy 3 phase dual source meter with energy sensing, prepaid/postpaid and connect/disconnect.

      1. This is an energy-sensing meter that uses GSM technology either prepaid/postpaid to keep track of the energy usage overcloud. 

      2. It also has the feature to disconnect and connect electricity over the air. User can view his energy usage history of past days/months/years.

      3. Workflow - 

        1. Part 1 -

          1. Smart energy 3 phase dual source meter sense energy used and sends it to Server every 15 minutes.

          2. Upon receiving a request from the meter, scripts running on the server decrypt the data and store it in the Postgres database.

          3. The statistics and detailed reports can be viewed from a mobile/web app.

        2. Part 2 - 

          1. When a user wants to disconnect electricity then he can give that command via mobile/web app.

          2. Mobile/web app contacts with MQTT Broker(Server) and asks it to send the command to smart energy meter.

          3. MQTT Broker(Server) sends a command to the energy meter and requests acknowledgment.

          4. The acknowledgment received is sent all the way back to the mobile/web app.


    1. Smart energy management module with connect/disconnect.

      1. It can be used to connect/disconnect electricity over the air.

      2. Workflow - 

        1. When a user wants to disconnect electricity then he can give that command via mobile/web app.

        2. Mobile/web app contacts with MQTT Broker(Server) and asks it to send the command to the smart energy management module.

        3. MQTT Broker(Server) sends a command to the energy management module and requests acknowledgment.

        4. The acknowledgment received is sent all the way back to the mobile/web app.

Exception - Once switched off remotely, it can’t be switched on remotely.


  1. Admin Web Console

    1. This is an admin web console that can be used to add/remove any devices from the server.

    2. It can also be used to check online and offline devices at that instance of time.

    3. Workflow - 

      1. It is a node.js+Angular web application.

      2. Authentication - A visitor will be authenticated before entering the website.

      3. Upon authentication, a dashboard of useful statistics will be shown.

      4. Users can see a number of Online/Offline devices in the dashboard.

      5. He can add/remove the device from the server using the dashboard.


  1. IoT devices Configuration App

    1. This app will be used to connect IoT devices to wifi router for the first time.

    2. This app will ask for wifi SSID and Password.

    3. It will pass this info to IoT devices which will be used by them to make connections to the router.
